What to Expect with Phototherapy
Before being prescribed Phothera narrowband phototherapy, your doctor may run a few tests to help maximize your treatment outcomes, some of which can include:
- Determine your Fitzpatrick skin type (I-VI) scale that compares the tool to your skin color to understand how your skin reactions to sunlight
- Perform a Minimal Erythemal Dose (MED) test to see how sensitive your skin is to UV light to determine your baseline dosage
- Use a Wood’s lamp to verify a vitiligo diagnosis
- Educate you on photoprotection and treatment compliance
- Have you take pictures of the area you will have treated before starting treatment to monitor your progress
During your phototherapy treatment journey, your doctor will want to check in with you to see how you are progressing, and can involve:
